Hi! I'm a humble indie dev and small business owner. I'm trying to make a living in the wide world of game development. It isn't easy, but I'm open to feedback and continuously improving.
I have my sights set on building online games. I grew up playing Tribes and Guild Wars, and online games have always been fascinating to me. I have two big game ideas, but my experience in development has taught me not to hold on too tightly to specifics, so let's keep it basic:
This is a hovertank, the fastest one actually, from my far future, stylized game universe. The image above was taken in Unity a couple of years ago, before I had online capability working reliably in the engine. Here's another, this time a heavy:
There are a lot of moving parts. Imagine all of the round pieces spinning at various speeds. This screenshot is from an earlier version of Unity, imagine it in the latest version with real time GI and some nice postprocess!
This was a prototype I made for my other game universe, an online ARPG with loot progression instead of levels and stats. In this game, you start out with all the same capabilities as experienced players, but you must learn how to use them! By that I mean, instead of leveling up your character to cast a spell, you must simply acquire some magical items or essences and actively cast the spell.
My games tend to be systems-driven. I find that pushing the player into a story arch restricts the gameplay into a linear progression, so instead I prefer to seek emergence through game mechanics instead.
I also develop MultiGame, a Unity plugin that consists of editor add-ons and premade game logic that snap together like Legos. With it, I'm able to make a high quality game in a few hours. I have been stuck doing client work to pay the bills, but many of the features in MultiGame were added through this process and I will be releasing it in multiple sub-packages (because it's frankly huge) on the Unity Asset Store soon. I hope it does well, the money will help me stay afloat while I work on my next big game project!
